On the Issues :: Environment

I represent the Lake Erie communities of Erie and Ottawa Counties in the Ohio House. As a longtime resident of Ottawa County, I understand the importance of protecting our natural resources and preserving what is most precious to us in Ohio—like Lake Erie.

In the legislature, I introduced bills to permanently ban oil drilling on Lake Erie, and have been an advocate for protecting our parks and wildlife. For his leadership on the environment, the League of Conservation Voters honored me with their highest grade of an A+.

I also believe that inextricably linked to our economic development must be a commitment to finding innovative and renewable forms of energy that make us independent from foreign sources and that are environmentally safe. There is, in the end, nothing more important than leaving our planet to our children better than we inherited it.

President John Kennedy once said, “I look forward to an America which will not be afraid of grace and beauty, which will protect the beauty of our natural environment, which will preserve the great old squares and parks of our national past. He is precisely right. Nothing is more important than protecting our environment and ensuring that our natural resources are preserved. We also must proactively defend against enterprises that can harm our most precious treasures—and deal sternly with offenders.
