On the Issues :: Education

No issue is more important to our state or its future than education.

For Ohio to move forward, our citizens need to be offered a top quality classroom experience, beginning at the preschool level, and continuing through college. During my career in the state legislature, I have been a leader for education reform, advocating for a more complete and fairer funding method for our public schools, and have pushed to cut the waste from our education system to focus our resources more directly on our students.

I also favored expanding Head Start and early education opportunities, particularly for children of low-income families and the working poor. This commitment does not end before K-12, we must also make sure we provide adequate opportunity to our youth after they graduate as well. Without the state's investment in higher education, our economy will remain stagnant and our workforce undereducated.

I am in favor of increasing the investment in our state colleges, and mandating that higher education institutions enact tuition caps to keep costs down, so that all Ohioans, not just some of them, have the opportunity for a great education.
